Bracket for converting early (two-piece) lower radiator housing to Cooper/S spec. For use when the engine has been fitted with a one- or two-piece harmonic damper instead of the original 850/998 stamped front crank pulley. Lower mounting bracket 12A0293 is also needed for this conversion.
Note in Photo 3, the integral bracket at the bottom of the radiator housing is different for Cooper and S models compared to the one on standard 850/998 models. Our adapter bracket replaces the original 850/998 bracket, which must be removed by drilling out the spot welds. The new bracket provides the necessary offset so the housing will be correctly spaced away from the front pulley.
The replacement bracket can be bolted into place for alignment purposes only after drilling 2 small holes, but it is strongly recommended to weld the bracket permanently into place to avoid possible movement due to engine vibration. If the radiator housing was to contact the engine fan, serious damage could result.
