Chrome PerTronix Flame-Thrower ignition coil for classic Minis with a ballast resistor in the ignition wiring, typically 1984-1996. Perfect for use with PerTronix inductive Hall Effect ignition conversions or with standard ignition systems. 40,000 volts, 1.5 ohm internal resistance. This is an oil-filled coil for road use. Mounting bracket sold separately, available in zinc or chrome finish
The higher voltage of the Flame-Thrower allows the spark plug gap to be set wider for added power, smoother response and better fuel economy.
To check for a ballast resistor in the wiring, connect a multimeter reading in volts to the ignition switch side of the your current ignition coil. Connect the other meter lead to ground. Turn on the ignition switch inside the car. If the voltage is close to 12V, there is no ballast resistor. If the voltage if between 6 and 9 volts, then a ballast resistor is present. If a resistor is present, you want a coil that is only 1.5 ohms internal resistance.
