Lower ball joint with integral spacer, for severely lowered classic Minis. Sealed ball joint, easy to install with no shimming required. Sold per pair, to be fitted in the lower position only.
The classic Mini is a great handler in standard form. When raced, (classic) Minis need as low a center of gravity as possible, but lowering a Mini changes the roll center as well, losing the built-in camber gain. The lower control arm is closer to horizontal at standard ride height, and if you imagine an arc at center there is little movement in and out. Lowered race cars typically run 1.5-2 degrees of camber to get that camber back. As the cars lean while cornering the tires are near vertical, but on braking and accelerating they run on the inside edge. To remedy this situation, lower the outer end of the control arm control arm using these ball joint extenders, which effectively puts it back to its stock location and restores the camber gain, as well as correcting the roll center. Less initial negative camber will be required, with the same cornering power, improved braking and tire wear.
